Gogglebox has paid a heartfelt tribute to beloved star Ken Harwood in tonight's episode. During this evening's instalment (Friday, May 15), the Gogglebox cast shared their thoughts on some of the most memorable watches from the past week, including David Attenborough's 100 Years on Planet Earth. But it was the end of the Channel 4 hit that really caught fans' attention as it featured a title card to Ken Harwood which simply read: 'In loving memory of Ken Harwood 1948 - 2026.'
Who Was Ken Harwood?
As long-term Gogglebox fanatics will know, Ken Harwood was a star of the show alongside his wife of 55 years, Anne, between 2020 and 2022. Production company Studio Lambert, which makes Gogglebox, confirmed that Harwood, who was from Consett, County Durham, died last week aged 77 after a short illness.
A Studio Lambert spokesperson said: 'He will be dearly missed by his wife Anne, sons Simon and Ross, daughter-in-law Elle, grandchildren Freya and Tristram, and all who knew him.' Harwood was a postmaster for 30 years and became a local councillor before retiring in 2013. During his stint on the show, Gogglebox won the BAFTA for Reality and Constructed Factual in 2022 and the NTA for Factual in both 2021 and 2022.
Fans Pay Tribute
Taking to social media, Gogglebox fans shared their own tributes to the Channel 4 favourite. 'Ah no Ken died I had no idea. RIP Ken. Hope Ann and family are doing okay,' someone shared. Another on Instagram posted: 'Ohhhhh bless you Ken. We loved watching you for all those years from Australia. Much love to all that adored him.' A third commented: 'What a lovely gentleman, may he rest in peace,' as another said: 'Oh, no. They were among my favourites on Gogglebox. Fair missed. Rest easy, Ken.' While a fellow user added: 'Aww sad news. I often wondered how they were doing. A lovely couple.'
