Good Morning Britain paid tribute to Jules Fielder, an inspirational lung cancer campaigner who appeared on the ITV show multiple times to raise awareness. Fielder, aged 42, passed away earlier this month, prompting a heartfelt tribute from the programme.
Jules Fielder's Advocacy
Jules Fielder, diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in November 2021 at age 37, used her experience to campaign for greater awareness of the disease. Her constituency MP, Helena Dollimore, appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss preserving her work. Dollimore highlighted that Fielder met the health secretary, the prime minister, and persuaded companies like Boots to roll out on-shelf awareness labels in 200 stores.
Dollimore said: "The thing about Jules is she made whoever she spoke to sit up and listen, whether it was the audience here on Good Morning Britain, whether it was politicians, and I raised her case in parliament." She added: "She lit the torch and it's up to those of us still here to carry that torch forward."
Tributes and Recognition
The GMB Twitter/X account posted: "Jules Fielder was an inspirational lung cancer campaigner who used her own experience of being diagnosed as a motivator to raise awareness around the symptoms of the disease." Prime Minister Keir Starmer had also praised her, writing in a letter on March 30 that he was 'moved' by her campaigning.
Viewers shared their condolences, with one writing: "What a pity she died." Another shared a personal story: "Lung Cancer: my friend was 46 and was diagnosed with lung, liver and bowel cancer. She never smoked or vaped. Started her treatment in August 2023. Passed away January 2023."
Fielder's legacy continues to inspire action on lung cancer awareness, with her MP vowing to carry forward her mission.
