Fans of the superhero series The Boys have been left reeling after a major plot twist in the penultimate episode of the Prime Video show. Season five, episode seven, titled The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man They Call Mother’s Milk, saw Homelander (Antony Starr) become even more dangerous, leading to a shocking character death.
Did Frenchie Die in The Boys?
Yes, Frenchie (Tomer Capone) sacrificed himself to protect Kimiko Miyashiro (Karen Fukuhara) from the maniacal Homelander. In a desperate move, he opened a hatch that exposed him to lethal doses of radiation, taunting Homelander with the words: “I bet you never danced a day in your life.” Frenchie later died in Kimiko’s arms, leaving her distraught.
Creator Explains the Decision
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, creator Eric Kripke revealed that killing off Frenchie was a deliberate choice. “We knew we had to kill off one of The Boys,” he said, comparing the tragic death to sacrifices in The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones for narrative momentum. The writers deemed Frenchie’s death the most heart-wrenching, concluding that the team would not have a chance of winning without his sacrifice.
Other Deaths in the Final Season
Frenchie joins a list of characters killed off in the final season, including A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) and Firecracker (Valorie Curry). The series finale, airing on Prime Video on Wednesday, May 20 at 8am BST, promises to deliver a climactic end after previous fan criticism of filler episodes.
