Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has vowed to fund medical care for any fan involved in the Huntingdon train knife attack, after a season-ticket holder suffered serious injuries while protecting a young girl. The incident occurred on a high-speed train on Saturday evening, with British Transport Police confirming two people remain in a life-threatening condition and nine others were treated in hospital.
The Forest supporter, a season-ticket holder, was among those injured during the attack, which took place as many fans were returning to London after watching Nottingham Forest's 2-2 draw with Manchester United. The exact nature of his injuries has not been disclosed.
In a club statement, Marinakis said: “Everyone at Nottingham Forest is shocked and deeply saddened by what happened. The courage and selflessness shown by our supporters on that train represents the very best of humanity and the very best of our club’s community. We will make sure any supporter caught up in this incident receives whatever financial support they require to enable them to access the best possible medical care as they recover.”
The club also expressed its deepest concern and heartfelt sympathy for all those affected, acknowledging the extraordinary bravery demonstrated by many individuals which helped prevent further harm. Nottingham Forest said any fans affected should contact the club’s head of fan engagement for assistance.
