Emmerdale actor Andrew Scarborough has revealed the tragic reason his character Graham Foster always wears a suit. The 52-year-old star explained that Graham's signature look is a coping mechanism linked to his traumatic past.
Scarborough said Graham is mourning the death of his wife Cheryl and their unborn child, who died in a car crash caused by Graham while he was driving drunk. 'He wanted a family when he was younger but he blew that completely. So he's mourning that the whole time, hence why he always wears the suit. He wears a red tie because he's been to hell and back and that's his reminder,' Scarborough told the press.
Graham's latest storyline sees him take troubled teenager Kyle Winchester under his wing after discovering Kyle is responsible for fires on Robert Sugden's farm. Scarborough said Graham's own past helps him relate to Kyle, adding: 'He's had quite a lot of tragedy... Arson, I suppose, is a form of that. Graham sees Kyle as somebody who's lost his way and still young, so he has a bit more forgiveness for him.'
Scarborough also addressed Graham's mystery connection to Coronation Street character Jodie Ramsey, which was hinted at during the Corriedale crossover. He said more details will be revealed, adding: 'I think it's still all to come out. I think there's been a bit of confusion.'
