Coronation Street fans have noticed a significant change in the role of Bertie Osbourne, with a new actor now portraying the character. The recast comes as his father Daniel Osborne is at the centre of a gripping new storyline.
Who is the new Bertie?
Henry Duggan made his debut as Bertie in recent episodes, replacing Rufus Morgan-Smith, who had shared the role with his twin brother. The change was spotted by eagle-eyed viewers when Bertie reappeared after several weeks off-screen.

Soap recasts for young characters are common as they age or take on larger roles. Producers often ensure the right fit for upcoming storylines. In this case, Daniel is set to face a mental health crisis after discovering his girlfriend Megan Walsh groomed and sexually abused a teenage student, Will Driscoll. Megan is also pregnant.
Daniel has been struggling with guilt over missing the signs and fear of being blamed. In Friday's episode, he lashed out, terrifying Bertie, who ran to his room. Daniel later dropped Bertie off with grandfather Ken Barlow before pretending to go to the Lakes, instead returning to his flat to drink in isolation.
What's next for Daniel?
Corrie boss Kate Brooks revealed that Daniel's mental state will deteriorate further. He met somebody who's on the same page as a teacher, apparently respectable, and he's been completely duped by it, and it completely makes him unravel, she said. Actor Rob Mallard will showcase his talent as Daniel slowly loses his grip, questioning who to trust. Brooks added: He feels like he's let Will down. He feels like he's let Bertie down. We’re really going to chart the impact she's had on him and his life and his attitude to relationships going forward.
Fans believe the recast signals Bertie will feature more prominently in this dark chapter. Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
