Coronation Street actor Jonathan Howard has revealed that viewers will be shocked by the identity of Theo Silverton's killer. The villain, played by James Cartwright, met a grim end in Friday's episode, with Betsy Swain discovering his body. The identity of the murderer remains a mystery.
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Howard, who plays Carl Webster, teased that fans will not see the killer coming. He said: 'From what I have seen and read, fans are not going to expect to find out who the killer is. They will be surprised who actually does the deed.'
The revelation comes as fans share their theories online, with some speculating that obvious suspects like Theo's partner Todd or Summer could be ruled out. However, Howard's comments suggest the killer may be an unexpected character.
Theo actor James Cartwright previously hinted at his character's fate, saying: 'He's running out of road. He's like a cornered dog. There's no other option at this point.' He added that soap is a 'moral medium' where baddies meet their end.
Viewers will see the fallout to murder week next week as the police begin their investigation. Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
