Coronation Street viewers believe they have identified the character who will be murdered, following suspicious scenes in the latest episode of the long-running ITV soap. The flashforward sequence aired earlier this year revealed that one of five characters—Jodie Ramsey, Carl Webster, Theo Silverton, Megan Walsh, or Maggie Driscoll—will be killed off during Carla Connor and Lisa Swain's wedding. Each episode leading up to the murder has been told from a potential victim's perspective, but Thursday's installment lacked any scenes featuring Maggie Driscoll, played by Pauline McLynn.
Maggie's Dark Past
Since arriving to take over the Rovers Return Inn, Maggie's backstory has been gradually unveiled. A flashback set in Ireland revealed she was responsible for the death of her husband Alan, pushing him down the stairs during an argument, witnessed by their son Finlay. More recently, it emerged that Maggie had an affair with Jim McDonald, meaning Ben's biological father is not Alan. These revelations have placed her at the centre of antagonistic storylines, yet her absence from the latest episode has sparked speculation.
Fan Theories
Taking to Reddit, one fan noted: "Suspicious lack of Maggie in today's episode. All the other potential victims got a step—Carl got one last payout and was sent packing, Jodie was paranoid, Theo sneaked around, Megan got a mention. But no mention of Maggie at all. Maybe setting her up to fly under the radar to be shocking when it turns out she is the victim?" Another fan agreed, pointing out that well-known actors like Pauline McLynn often join Coronation Street for a short stint, citing Sue Johnston and Stephanie Cole as examples. However, some viewers remain unconvinced, arguing that Maggie's story regarding her husband's death has not been fully explored and that killing her off would be premature.
Producer's Insight
Coronation Street boss Kate Brooks described the storyline as "very complicated," explaining that the team had to ensure all five potential victims' stories aligned. "It could be any of them. Stars aligned to get to this juicy week," she said. The murder mystery will continue to unfold with consequences for all characters involved.
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
