Timothee Chalamet has been branded a bad boyfriend for failing to support his girlfriend Kylie Jenner at Monday's Met Gala. The Marty Supreme star, 30, shunned the glitz and glamour at Manhattan's Metropolitan Museum of Art, instead heading to nearby Madison Square Garden to watch his beloved New York Knicks in the NBA playoffs.
The Oscar nominee was spotted rubbing elbows with Tracy Morgan and actress Susie Essman for game one of the Eastern Conference semifinal series, where the Knicks trounced the Philadelphia 76ers 137-98.
Jenner, meanwhile, went solo on the red carpet, rocking a shocking flesh-colored Schiaparelli gown with a nipple-teasing bodice.
On social media, Chalamet did not address his Met Gala absence, instead posting a picture of his baby blue Adidas Samba sneakers as he sat courtside. While some TikTok users praised the actor's move as relatable, some Jenner fans fumed, saying Chalamet should have been by his girlfriend's side.
'He never supports Kylie when it's about her, but she always supports him,' one opined.
It marks the second year in a row the star has ditched the Met Gala to watch the Knicks. Last year, Jenner also went solo at the event while Chalamet soaked up an NBA game from the comfort of his home.
Last May, the Knicks superfan holed up with three guy friends in a hotel to cheer on their beloved team to victory against the Boston Celtics 108-105 on an iPad.
'I had to be locked in, man,' Chalamet later explained when addressing his absence from the 2025 Met Gala.
The Oscar-nominee and billionaire entrepreneur have been dating for over three years and live together, with marriage being a consideration, according to a Daily Mail source. Insiders revealed in early 2025 that the pair have agreed to a set of stipulations regarding their relationship.
While the twosome only started attending public events together more than two years into their relationship, they have not explicitly posted each other online. They made their red carpet debut at the 70th David Di Donatello Awards in May 2025.
This year's Met Gala has been marred with controversy as Hollywood is furious that Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, 62, and wife Lauren Sanchez, 56, sponsored the event. It is rumored that the couple gave $10 million to the Costume Institute in exchange for being named honorary co-chairs.
They reportedly paid the eye-watering sum for the privilege to hobnob with former Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who has spearheaded the fundraiser since 1995. Sources told Page Six the move put them in favor with Wintour, 76, who uses the event to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute.
'The Bezoses are where the American dream is at right now for status, wealth and style,' William Norwich, a former editor at Vogue, explained to the outlet. 'They display conspicuous consumption [and] they have the 'AWOK' – the Anna Wintour OK.'
Last year's Met Gala raised $31 million, marking the highest total in the event's 77-year history.
