Two brothers have been jailed for killing a 16-year-old boy who was struck by a car being deliberately driven at a group on bikes in Sheffield. Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Taleb, who had come to the UK from Yemen 'in search of safety and a better life', was hit by the vehicle driven by Zulkernain Ahmed in June 2025.
Zulkernain Ahmed, 21, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 30 years for murder at Sheffield Crown Court. His brother, Armaan Ahmed, 27, who was a passenger in the Audi S3, received a 17-year sentence for manslaughter. The judge, Mrs Justice Amanda Tipples, described the killing as 'senseless and shocking'.
The court heard that the brothers had been targeting a group of three riders on e-bikes and a moped when the car fatally hit Abdullah, who was walking on the pavement. The incident stemmed from the theft of e-bikes and threats allegedly made to Zulkernain by a man who refused to cooperate with police.
In a statement read to the court, Abdullah's father, Yaser Abdullah Taleb Al Yazidi, said his son had been living in Sheffield for only two months and planned to start college. 'Life in Yemen was almost impossible – war, gangs, and individuals carrying weapons,' he said. 'He was happy to arrive in a safe country.'
