Newly released dashcam footage from Britney Spears' March 4 DUI arrest in Ventura County, California, shows the singer repeatedly refusing to exit her car and offering to make officers lasagna at her home. The video, published by TMZ, captures California Highway Patrol officers telling Spears they smelled alcohol from her black BMW convertible and asking her to step out for a sobriety investigation.
Spears, 44, declined to leave the vehicle, stating she felt “invaded” and “harassed.” When a supervising officer suggested moving away from traffic to reduce attention from onlookers, Spears proposed an alternative: “You can come to my house. I'll make you food and lasagna, or whatever you want. I have a pool. My babies are coming to my house tonight, supposedly.” She shares two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
After about 10 minutes, Spears exited the car and underwent field sobriety tests. An officer reported detecting “the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath and person,” noting her speech was “rapid and slurred,” her gait unsteady, and she was fidgeting. Spears told officers she takes Lamictal and Prozac daily and admitted to taking Adderall on the day of her arrest, though a bottle of Adderall found in her purse was not prescribed to her. An empty wine glass was also found in the car.
Spears claimed she had one mimosa “around 2 p.m.” and last ate ice cream at 3 p.m. She told officers, “I could probably drink four bottles of wine and take care of you. I’m an angel.” An officer reported “drastic mood swings,” noting she occasionally spoke in a British accent and shifted between being “confrontational and agitated” and “flamboyant.”
When informed she was under arrest, Spears became emotional, insisting she was not intoxicated. She referenced a past incident involving her mother, Lynne Spears, who in 1975 struck and killed a 12-year-old boy while driving. “My mom accidentally killed a man on a bike, but I never did that before,” Spears said, adding, “My mom tried to kill me.” She also asked officers to sit with her in the patrol vehicle so she would not be alone.
Spears was briefly detained and later released. The dashcam footage provides a detailed look at the interaction leading to her DUI arrest.
