The teenage son of Republican congresswoman Lauren Boebert has been cited for child abuse for a second time, after her grandson reportedly wandered away from a family property in Colorado. Tyler Boebert, 20, was issued a misdemeanour charge of child abuse without injury following the incident in Windsor over the weekend.
Ms Boebert told 9News that a woman found the child safely and called authorities as a precaution. The Windsor Police Department confirmed the citation, which marks the second such charge against Tyler in recent months. He already faces trial in April for a similar incident at Ms Boebert’s home in July.
Tyler was arrested in February 2024 on 22 charges related to vehicle trespasses and thefts, including criminal possession of identification documents. He later pleaded guilty to attempted identity theft as part of a plea deal, receiving a two-year deferred judgment that could spare him a felony conviction if he completes probation.
In a statement to The Denver Post, Ms Boebert said her son “should be held accountable for poor decisions” but added, “I will never give up on him.” She described his struggles as “very difficult, public challenges” for a young man.
Ms Boebert, known for her hardline immigration stance and promotion of QAnon theories, has also been a vocal advocate for releasing files related to Jeffrey Epstein. She faced backlash from Donald Trump after he vetoed a water project bill for her Colorado district, which she suggested was political retaliation.
