Chelsea Owners BlueCo Accused of Weakening Strasbourg Squad in Transfer Window
BlueCo Accused of Weakening Strasbourg Squad in Transfers

Strasbourg manager Gary O’Neil has launched a scathing attack on BlueCo, the consortium that owns both Strasbourg and Chelsea, accusing them of mismanaging recruitment and undermining the club’s culture. O’Neil claimed that the January transfer window left his squad weaker rather than stronger, pointing to the loan departures of striker David Datro Fofana and defender Aaron Anselmino to Chelsea, the recall of Mamadou Sarr to west London, and Kendry Paez’s re-loan to River Plate.

Fan Protests and Shared Frustrations

The manager’s comments come amid widespread discontent among Chelsea supporters, who have voiced similar grievances over recruitment, managerial instability, and a perceived lack of direction under BlueCo. Chelsea currently sit ninth in the Premier League. In April, fans of both clubs united for a joint protest against BlueCo, led by Behdad Eghbali’s Clearlake Capital and investor Todd Boehly, outside Stamford Bridge, highlighting shared frustrations over the consortium’s ownership.

O’Neil’s Call for Change

Following a 1-1 draw with Angers on Sunday, O’Neil expressed anger at his team’s performance and stressed the need for significant improvements. “We messed up in the January transfer window. We weakened instead of improving the squad,” he said. He called for a change in culture, better player quality, and greater squad depth, insisting that the club must learn from its mistakes to move forward.
