Former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! contestant Anne Hegerty has strongly criticised David Haye's conduct in the South African jungle, labelling his antics as 'downright bullying'. The former boxer faced backlash for his comments and behaviour towards Adam Thomas, which he dismissed as 'banter'. However, Hegerty, known for her appearance on the show in 2018, did not hold back in her assessment.
Hegerty's Strong Words
'I really didn't think David behaved well,' Hegerty told the Mirror exclusively. 'It was downright bullying in a tiresomely macho way. He obviously thinks there's only one way to be a man. I would remind David that many contestants have done better than he did on the Celebrity Chase!'
Other Contestants Weigh In
Comedian Ruby Wax also condemned Haye's actions, expressing concern about the impact on young viewers. 'Yet they put it on television? Kids will go, "That's my hero, he's on TV." At least when I did I'm A Celebrity, they promised me we'd love everybody in there, and they didn't think it would get high viewing figures because nobody was a loser. And we didn't treat anybody like that because they weren't.'
Regarding Adam Thomas's reported use of strong language during a rant at Jimmy Bullard, Hegerty was unbothered. 'Adam doesn't strike me as the kind of person to get stroppy. I think he's there to get along with everyone. I would be actually fine with it, because I talk like that all the time. That sort of language does not offend me at all.'
Jimmy Bullard shared a clip on Instagram where Sinitta claimed the C-word was shouted, captioning it: 'Wow thanks @thesinittaofficial shame that wasn't shown! My version will be told Friday! Can't wait to see you all…well some of yous!!'
Who Will Win?
When asked about her preferred winner, Hegerty backed Harry Redknapp, who was in the jungle with her in 2018. 'He was so lovely to me, all my campmates were, so naturally I would support him. Whether he's the most likely to win, I couldn't say. All of them would be very worthy winners.' She also mentioned Adam Thomas, Craig Charles, and Mo Farah as deserving contenders.
