An Amazon delivery driver has been hailed as a hero after interrupting a violent attack in Chisago County, Minnesota, saving a woman's life. The incident occurred on May 11 at a home in the city of Wyoming, where the driver was delivering a package. According to a criminal complaint obtained by CBS News, the driver heard screaming from inside the house and looked through a window to see a woman covered in blood and a man holding a hammer. Without hesitation, he entered the home, ordered the man to drop the weapon, and called 911.
Swift Action by Delivery Driver
When deputies arrived, they found the Amazon driver inside with the victim, who was bleeding heavily from her head, arms, and hands. The suspect, James Alan Johnson, 72, was taken into custody at the scene. He allegedly admitted that his business was nearing financial collapse and that he intended to kill his wife to spare her from living on drastically reduced Social Security benefits. Investigators claim Johnson planned to knock his wife unconscious before killing her.
Victim's Account and Injuries
The victim told police she was struck twice on the head with a hammer and managed to fight off her attacker by hitting him in the groin. Police reports noted two large, bloody indentations on her head consistent with multiple hammer strikes. Johnson faces charges of first-degree attempted murder and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. He is being held at Chisago County Jail on a $1 million bond.
