Welsh actress Aimee-Ffion Edwards is set to captivate audiences in ITV's new drama Believe Me. The four-part series delves into the harrowing story of John Worboys, the 'black cab rapist', and follows two women, Sarah and Laila, who reported sexual assaults by Worboys but faced inadequate investigations. Edwards plays Sarah, one of the pseudonymous victims.
Early Career and Breakthrough Roles
Born in Newport, Edwards began her television career nearly two decades ago. She has appeared in a wide array of popular series, including Skins, Luther, Casualty, Being Human, Wolf Hall, and the beloved crime drama Death in Paradise. However, many viewers will recognize her from two major hits: Peaky Blinders and Slow Horses.
Peaky Blinders: Esme Shelby
Edwards portrayed Esme Shelby in the historical crime drama Peaky Blinders from 2013 to 2017, reprising the role in 2022. Esme, a member of the Lee gypsy family, marries John Shelby (Joe Cole) in a bid to unite the Shelby and Lee clans. The actress shared with Cosmopolitan: "I feel like I got to do some really good stuff, and the storylines were really strong, and I could make the best of Esme."
Slow Horses: Shirley Dander
In Apple TV+'s Slow Horses, starring Gary Oldman, Edwards plays Shirley Dander, an MI5 agent stationed at Slough House. Shirley appears in the second series after being demoted due to an altercation with a superior and her struggles with drug addiction. Edwards told Flickering Myth: "I really love the scenes with lots of the slow horses and Slough House. The dynamics between all the characters are just so important."
