Adolescence Set to Triumph at Bafta TV Awards

The critically acclaimed series Adolescence is poised for a triumphant night at the Bafta TV awards, following a year that ignited widespread discussions on online safety. The four-part drama, which has already garnered nine Emmy awards, leads the nominations with 11 nods, including best limited drama.

Lead Actor Category

Co-creator Stephen Graham is nominated in the lead actor category for his role in Adolescence. He will compete against Colin Firth for Lockerbie: A Search For Truth, Ellis Howard for What It Feels Like For A Girl, James Nelson-Joyce for This City Is Ours, Matt Smith in The Death Of Bunny Munro, and Taron Egerton in Smoke. Graham is expected to attend the ceremony in central London on Sunday.

Supporting Roles

Graham's Adolescence co-stars face off in the supporting actor and actress categories. Ashley Walters and Owen Cooper are both nominated for supporting actor, while Christine Tremarco and Erin Doherty compete for supporting actress. Doherty also received a leading actress nomination for A Thousand Blows.

Leading Actress Nominations

The leading actress category features Jodie Whittaker for Toxic Town, Narges Rashidi for Prisoner 951, Sheridan Smith for I Fought The Law, Sian Brooke in Blue Lights, and Aimee Lou Wood for Film Club, which she co-created. Wood also earned a supporting actress nomination for her role in The White Lotus.

Ceremony Details

Hosted by comedian Greg Davies, the event will include musical performances by Cat Burns and Aurora. The Traitors presenter Claudia Winkleman will reunite with series winner Alan Carr, alongside Nick Mohammed and Celia Imrie. The celebrity spin-off series earned five nominations, including best reality series and best entertainment performance for Winkleman. Carr is nominated for two awards, including the memorable moment award for his victory over Mohammed and David Olusaga.

Special Awards

Dame Mary Berry will receive a Bafta fellowship, and financial journalist Martin Lewis will be honoured with the Bafta television special award.

Other Notable Nominations

Northern Irish drama Trespasses received six nominations, including best limited drama. Seth Rogen's The Studio is nominated for the International Bafta award, competing against The Bear, The Diplomat, Pluribus, The White Lotus, and Severance. In the current affairs category, Gaza: Doctors Under Attack, a documentary initially shelved by the BBC over impartiality concerns but later aired by Channel 4, has been nominated.

The Bafta TV awards follow the Bafta Film awards in February, which faced controversy when Tourette Syndrome activist John Davidson's involuntary verbal tic, containing a racial slur, was broadcast during a live segment despite a two-hour delay.

The ceremony will air on BBC One on Sunday at 7pm.
