Vernon Kay spoke about his family life days before he and Tess Daly announced their separation, suggesting their relationship with their daughters was evolving as the children grew older.
The couple, who met in 2001 and married in 2003, confirmed the end of their marriage in a joint statement on social media on Friday, May 8th.
They wrote: "After much consideration, and with a deep sense of care and respect for one another, we have made the decision to separate amicably. We remain great friends and most importantly, fully committed to our roles as loving and supportive parents."
On April 27th, Kay had opened up about the couple's two daughters, Phoebe, 21, and Amber, 17, saying: "Our relationship with them is changing. We talk about encouraging them to leave the nest and be independent but we don't really want them to." He added: "That's one thing that Tess and I decided early on. We talked openly about everything from the moment we realised the girls could understand [the subject] … Communication is everything."
In the months before the split, the presenters had stopped sharing pictures of each other on social media. Tess had not posted a photo of Vernon since they hosted The One Show together in February.
The day before announcing their separation, both posted separate images with Phoebe, who had recently returned from the US after moving there earlier in the year.
