Celtic's Auston Trusty: Title Charge Within Magical Grasp After Rangers Win
Trusty: Celtic Title Charge Within Magical Grasp

Celtics defender Auston Trusty has expressed his belief that the team can achieve something truly special after reducing the gap to league leaders Hearts to just one point, with only two matches remaining in the season.

Victory Over Rangers Keeps Title Hopes Alive

Sundays emphatic 3-1 triumph over Rangers not only eliminated Danny Rohls side from the title race but also placed the destiny of the championship firmly in the hands of the current holders. Following a turbulent campaign, Celtic now know that victories against Motherwell on Wednesday and Hearts on Saturday will be sufficient to secure their fifth consecutive league title.

After appearing to be out of contention following a defeat at Tannadice in March, Martin ONeills squad has now matched their best run of five straight Premiership wins as the finish line approaches.

Trusty: Momentum Can Lead to Magic

The American international defender stated that the dressing room shares the supporters sentiment that one of the most improbable titles in the clubs history is now a realistic possibility. I dont think weve ever stopped believing, Trusty remarked. Weve always had the mindset that it was within our grasp. But with the momentum we have now, I would say it can be really magical.

He acknowledged the highs and lows throughout the season but emphasised that the team has grown stronger through adversity. We dont want lows, but we can take positives from them and become even stronger. Were just continuing the momentum weve built.

Motherwell Clash a Major Test

Under the guidance of Wilfried Nancy, Celtic were comprehensively outplayed during their December defeat at Fir Park. Although the side has since rebounded, they face a significant challenge against a Motherwell team that can secure fourth place ahead of Hibs with a win. Trusty insisted the team must focus on their own game. We should go there and play our game. Obviously this year weve had ups and downs, but with our momentum, lets just go there and play the Celtic way.

O'Neills Influence Praised

ONeill initially returned to the club after Brendan Rodgers departed abruptly in October. Despite improvements in results under his stewardship, the club proceeded with the appointment of Nancy. The Frenchmans tenure proved disastrous, lasting only eight games and 33 days before he was dismissed, paving the way for ONeills return. Trusty highlighted the veterans immense contribution in guiding the team back into title contention on two separate occasions this season.

He described ONeill as fantastic, noting his illustrious playing career and successful managerial background. Hes just that character for us as a team. His first stint when he came here, and then when he came back the second time, he kept us going. Hes calm but also a bit aggressive. He has a lot of experience and knows exactly what to say, and weve reacted well to it.

Maeda's Resurgence Key

ONeills second spell has seen Daizen Maeda rediscover his top form. The Japanese forward endured a 17-game goal drought before scoring in the Scottish Cup semi-final against St Mirren. After netting the second goal against Rangers, his third an audacious overhead kick marked his sixth goal in the last four matches. Trusty believes Maedas energy, beyond his goalscoring, has been instrumental in Celtics resurgence.

He described Maeda as fantastic, one of the best players he has ever played with. Having a guy like that, defensively and offensively, you definitely want him on your side. When you see someone working their butt off, getting into every spot, tracking back, playing as a number nine, and making defensive plays in his own box, it only helps the team.
