Labour is now leading the Conservatives by eight points, according to fresh research from Ipsos, marking the party's largest lead recorded by the polling company during this Parliament.
The poll shows voting intention for Labour has risen to 32 per cent, up five points from last month's research. The Conservatives are now in second place on 24 per cent, up three points from their previous polling.
Reform UK and Greens Slip
The so-called 'Burnham bounce' has pushed Reform UK into third place. Nigel Farage's party is down three points, while the Green Party is down five points.
The poll surveyed 1,109 people between 15 and 22 October. It is the first time that Kemi Badenoch's party has been second place in an Ipsos poll since June 2025.
Ipsos Analysis
“The Labour Party under Andy Burnham is resurgent, consolidating voters on the left behind them,” said Keiran Pedley, director of politics at Ipsos in the UK.
However, he also urged caution against 'overreacting to one poll', adding: "The government faces a challenging Budget this coming week and the lesson of the last year is that British politics is volatile," he told PoliticsHome.
Upcoming Budget Test
Mr Burnham's government will face a major test on Wednesday when the chancellor delivers his first Budget. John Healey is navigating a difficult domestic economic situation, made worse by the international market turmoil caused by the Iran war.
