UK Government Issues Verdict on Harry and Meghan Security Plan

The UK Government has stated that its protective security system is 'rigorous and proportionate' as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex prepare to relocate to the country later this month.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, along with their two children, are expected to move back to Britain, six years after leaving for the United States. The family is reportedly planning to settle in a non-royal residence believed to be outside London.

Home Office Statement on Security Arrangements

Following the news of the couple's planned return, the Home Office issued a statement: 'The UK Government's protective security system is rigorous and proportionate.'

The statement added: 'It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals' security.'

Role of Ravec in Security Decisions

The Home Office clarified that the Home Secretary is not involved in security arrangements for members of the royal family or other key public figures. Security decisions are instead taken by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec).

Ravec's membership includes the Home Office, the Metropolitan Police, and the royal household, who work together to advise the independent chair in making decisions. These decisions are informed by expert risk assessments and in line with government policy.
