Piers Morgan has delivered a scathing eight-word response to reports that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are relocating back to the UK with their children, Archie and Lilibet. Taking to social media, the Uncensored presenter posted: "I may have to emigrate to the US."
Morgan's long-standing criticism of the Sussexes
Morgan has made his distaste for the Sussexes clear over the years, ever since the Duke and Duchess revealed they planned to step down as "senior" members of the Royal Family almost six years ago. Since then, the former Good Morning Britain host has persistently slammed the couple, whether on social media or television.
This time, however, he was not alone in criticising the move online, with users rushing to X to voice their opinions on the royal announcement, according to the Express.
Public reaction and relocation details
One user wrote: "Couldn't agree more. The double standards are obvious," as another concurred: "They say they want to be left alone, right?" A third contributed: "I think they mistake privacy with PR. They wonder why people don't like them." As a fourth added: "Why bother posting pics if not letting anyone see their faces? If they want their privacy, then don't bother posting anything. Who do they think they are?"
According to the Daily Telegraph, the pair will relocate to the United Kingdom later this month, establishing their home in a non-royal property outside of London. It is understood that there will be no alteration to Harry and Meghan's role and status as private individuals and non-working members of the royal family. The King was first informed of the move on Sunday and is believed to welcome the chance to see more of the family both privately and personally.
Children's schooling and family background
Both The Telegraph and The Sun report that the couple's children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, are registered to start at British schools in September. Harry and Meghan, who tied the knot at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, in May 2018, were once labelled part of the "Fab Four" alongside the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. In March 2019, Buckingham Palace announced that Harry and Meghan would establish their own household, separating from the joint operation with William and Kate, amid media reports of tensions between the two couples.
In January 2020, the duke and duchess declared their intention to step back as "senior" members of the Royal Family, become financially independent, continue to support the Queen but divide their time between the UK and North America. By March 2020, they had established a permanent residence in Los Angeles, California, and on 31 March of that year, Harry and Meghan officially resigned as senior royals and ceased using their HRH titles.
Recent visit and Invictus Games
The surprising news that the couple are relocating back to Britain comes less than two months after the duke was attempting to find a safe way to bring his wife and children to the UK to mark the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham. At the end of June, he was still awaiting a review by the Risk Management Board, part of the process by which the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures determines his security needs.
Meghan managed to travel to the UK in July with Archie and Lilibet to join Harry when he concluded a week-long series of events promoting the games. During the visit, the duke and duchess took their children to meet the King for the first time in four years at his Highgrove home. The Invictus Games are scheduled from 10-27 July next year, with Birmingham expected to welcome around 550 wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans, along with their families, from 25 nations.
