President Donald Trump has declared that Iran will never possess a nuclear weapon, claiming that if it had one, it would have been used within the first hour. The statement comes after months of conflict between the US and Iran, which roiled global markets, disrupted air travel, and caused widespread chaos across the Middle East.
Conflict and Peace Deal
The US and Iran found themselves locked in a conflict following joint US-Israeli strikes on several key Iranian sites on February 28. The hostilities led to the closure of the critical Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil shipments. After months of fighting, a peace agreement has been signed that will see the Strait of Hormuz reopen and Iran commit to eliminating its enriched uranium reserves, which could be used to develop nuclear weapons.
Trump's Warning
According to reports from Al Jazeera, Trump stated: "We had to act against Iran because its possession of a nuclear weapon means the demise of Israel and the Middle East and endangering the world." He added: "Iran will not possess nuclear weapons and has agreed to that 100%. If Iran had a nuclear weapon, they would have used it within the first hour, and we will not allow that to happen."
Ongoing Negotiations
Trump's comments come as negotiations between Israel and Lebanon are still ongoing, with Washington continuing to facilitate the talks. The peace deal with Iran is seen as a major step toward stability in the region, though the details of the agreement and the timeline for uranium removal remain unclear.
