Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey will present the Autumn Budget later today, outlining the government's plans for the UK economy, including taxation and spending. The Budget is set to address the cost of living crisis, with a stated aim to "move money and power out of Westminster, and into every postcode around Britain".
When and where to watch
The Budget broadcast will be available from 12.30pm on BBC iPlayer, following Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons. The Chancellor is expected to announce measures "to give families and businesses a bit of breathing space" following the rise in prices since the start of the current Israel/US conflict with Iran.
What it means for Liverpool
For Liverpool and the wider city region, the Chancellor and Prime Minister Andy Burnham have vowed to pump more money and devolved powers into regions like ours. Liverpool has seen an acute homelessness crisis in recent years and will receive a share of further funding that the Chancellor will announce to help with Mr Burnham's pledge to end rough sleeping.
Mr Healey said: "Today’s everyday fixes are just a small part of what we are doing to give families a bit of breathing space. Conflict in the Middle East and Europe is hitting families here at home through higher everyday costs. We can’t control global events, but we can act where we can make a difference."
