Budget 2026 calculator: How will Healey's statement affect you?

Millions of households will receive a £100 winter payment and standing charges will be scrapped on gas bills as John Healey vowed to support struggling families with his Budget.

If you are living in a home in council tax bands A to D in England, you will receive a one-off £100 "Household Energy Payment" from January.

The Treasury calculates that 60% of households will save an average of £45 a year on bills with the scrapping of the fixed daily charges on gas bills.

Tax hikes and fuel duty extension

The chancellor hiked taxes on banks and gambling firms to provide the "breathing space" he promised for households.

In a boost for motorists, the 5p "temporary" cut in fuel duty on petrol and diesel, introduced by Rishi Sunak in 2022, will be extended to July.

The chancellor also scrapped his predecessor Rachel Reeves' plans to reduce the annual amount people can save tax-free in cash in Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs), so people will still be able to save £20,000 cash tax-free a year.
