President Donald Trump has dealt a significant blow to his party by stating he does not care about the upcoming midterm elections. During a Cabinet meeting, when asked about negotiations with Iran, Trump declared, “I don't care about the midterms,” a remark that has sent shockwaves through Republican circles.
Trump’s Approval and Party Tensions
Trump’s approval rating has plummeted to 39 percent, with 61 percent disapproving of his performance. The decline is largely attributed to the ongoing conflict with Iran and soaring petrol prices. A staggering 91 percent of Americans blame the President’s decision to engage in conflict with Iran for the high cost of petrol.
Endorsement and Senate Strains
Earlier, Trump’s endorsement helped Ken Paxton defeat incumbent Republican senator John Cornyn in a Texas primary runoff. However, Senate Republicans have resisted Trump’s demands, rejecting funding for his White House ballroom project and a fund for allies facing legal issues. Cornyn’s defeat may further worsen relations between the President and Senate Republicans.
Trump’s lack of interest in the midterms comes as a crushing message to Republicans, who are already facing electoral challenges. The party now faces an uphill battle to rally support without the full backing of its leader.
