Trump cornered and angry as mid-term dreams go up in smoke

Donald Trump is cornered and angry, with his dreams about to go up in smoke, according to a scathing opinion piece by Nick Ferrari. With the mid-terms just days away, in which the riven Republican party he purports to lead is almost universally predicted to fare abysmally, President Trump will resort to anything to try to keep his term in office meaningful.

A dramatic slump from a decisive victory

It will fall to historians to chronicle just how a president who was elected so decisively has slumped to an all-time low less than halfway through his term. In the 2024 election, Trump was only the second Republican in the last 30 years to win the popular vote, as well as being only the second President ever to win a non-consecutive term.

The 31 states with the 312 electoral votes he picked up was the best Republican performance since George H Bush in 1988. He also managed to attract black and Latino voters in unprecedented numbers. All of which now seems a long, long time ago as his support continues to haemorrhage.

Actions that have drawn sharp criticism

Hence his actions over recent days, starting with staying resolutely silent about the possibility of the televising of a federal execution by an army firing squad, an act of such naked barbarism it shreds any sense of dignity for a nation that purports to be world leading. It took more than a week for him to put an end to the hideous stunt.

Then he revealed he was buying oil from Vladimir Putin, despite signing a global treaty just two months ago calling for tariffs to be applied to any country that purchased Russian oil. The US $400 million that will pour into Putin’s war chest is estimated to provide little more than one week’s worth of fuel for America.

And just when it seemed impossible he could become even more grossly offensive, he chose to post video footage of that poor man being mauled to death by a tiger in a Doncaster wildlife park and followed it up with AI generated footage of him playfully wrestling with a tiger with music underneath.

Wider commentary and warnings

Ferrari also questioned how Just Stop Oil protesters are feeling now, and highlighted an empty boast about the RAF’s £7 billion first ever space defence programme, noting that the Royal Navy’s sole icebreaker had to be towed back to port within hours of leaving Devonport in Plymouth.

He also dismissed claims of racial bias in the TV show Celebrity Traitors, and noted the chilling warning from MI5 boss Sir Ken McCallum, who said: “Nine eleven changed the world and we are there again. We have entered a new era of national security.”
