Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, known for his electrifying performances on offense, was left bewildered after receiving a trophy for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year instead of the Offensive Player of the Year award he actually won.
An Unexpected Trophy
Smith-Njigba, who set franchise records with 119 receptions and 1,793 receiving yards last season, was awarded the NFL's Offensive Player of the Year. However, when the trophy arrived, the engraving read "Defensive Player of TheYear," prompting a humorous reaction from the star.
In an Instagram video, Smith-Njigba expressed his disbelief, saying, "I really want to expose them. It's getting disrespectful, guys." He highlighted the word "Defensive" and quipped, "Defense? Come on, bro." He also noted the misspelling "TheYear" and said, "One word? Man."
A Lighthearted Response
The 24-year-old, who made only three tackles last season, considered returning the trophy. "Just keep the award at this point," he wrote in the caption. "Leave it in the history books, tho."
Smith-Njigba's stellar 2025 campaign culminated in the Seahawks winning the Super Bowl, and he signed a four-year, $168.6 million contract extension this offseason. The trophy mishap has only added to his memorable season.
