Piers Morgan has advised Donald Trump to stop listening to "war-mongering imbeciles" after the Democrats secured a historic midterm win, with the Republicans losing control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The Uncensored host took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share his thoughts on the outcome, writing: "I think President Donald Trump should stop listening to war-mongering imbeciles like Ben Shapiro and Mark Levin and start listening to people like me."
Trump's Reaction to Defeat
In the run-up to the vote, Trump had urged voters to "really pretend I'm on the ballot" at the election, which he was not. As results came in, he claimed he "would have won IN A LANDSLIDE" if he had been on the ballot.
The president has since lashed out at allies and Fox News, taking to Truth Social to share his fury. He slammed Fox and the outgoing Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, suggesting Abbott has become "RINO" - a Republican in name only. He also accused the right-wing news channel of "spending too much time covering the Trump Deranged Dumocrats".
He posted: "I'm going to become a Political Pundit, both good and bad, on the reasons these candidates won and lost! All of those people who used to watch Fox, and no longer do, get it. It's them, not me - my numbers are better than they have ever been."
Shapiro and Levin's Comments
Morgan's comment referenced remarks Shapiro and Levin made about how Americans feel about the ongoing war with Iran. In a clip shared on his X account, they told Fox News: "When we look at the facts survey, Iran is a 4% issue with the American people. So, whatever happens in the midterms, it doesn't appear that Iran's going to drive anything one way or another."
Shapiro was seen nodding in agreement before adding: "I think that's exactly right."
Fans soon flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts. One user agreed: "He [President Trump] surrounds himself with bootlickers and a** kissers," while another argued: "Donald Trump is an adult and can be held accountable for his own actions. He's not being forced to do anything by anyone."
A third fumed: "Piers, Donald Trump is going to do whatever personally benefits Donald Trump in the immediate moment. How the bloody hell have you not figured that out yet?" A fourth pointed out: "They [Shapiro and Levin] massaged his ego and milked him dry of power and support and everything else. Thanks, Shapiro and Levin."
Trump Acknowledges Iran's Role
In a separate interview with Fox News, Trump praised his fellow Republicans, admitting he was "a little surprised" by the outcome. Referring to the Republican candidates, he said: "I thought they'd do better. The Democrats did a good job; they fought hard."
Trump went on to acknowledge that the Iran conflict had contributed to the defeat, telling reporters: "I think a part of it was Iran." He added that it was the war's impacts on US fuel prices that turned voters away, explaining: "People agree with what I'm doing on Iran but they really probably weren't willing to do the short-term consequences of paying more for gasoline - I understand that."
Trump warned that the Democrats would send "insane" legislation to his desk that he would veto. "After a couple of months of vetoes, they'll call, and they'll say, 'How do we get this stuff done?' And we'll work together. I have the power of veto."
After the interview, he returned to Truth Social, where he posted a photo of a red cap, the type usually emblazoned with his signature Make America Great Again slogan, but this time simply reading: "VETO".
