The political world was left reeling last week when firebrand Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene announced her dramatic resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives. However, the Georgia politician may not be out of the public eye for long, with intense speculation mounting that she could be in line for a seat on ABC's flagship daytime talk show, The View.
From Capitol Hill to The Hot Seat?
The rumours began swirling immediately after Greene confirmed she would be stepping down from her congressional seat, with her resignation taking effect from 5 January. The timing is particularly convenient, as current conservative co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin is preparing to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her first child in February.
Adding fuel to the fire, former View star Meghan McCain took to X (formerly Twitter) moments after Greene's bombshell announcement to post: 'I knew she was going to be the next co-host of The View!' McCain herself held the conservative seat on the programme from 2017 to 2021.
A Surprisingly Warm Welcome
The speculation stems from Greene's surprisingly well-received appearance on the show earlier this month, where she engaged in a civil discussion with outspoken liberal co-host Sunny Hostin. The conversation covered topics ranging from the government shutdown to Israel's assault on Gaza and the administration's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case.
An insider from the show told the Daily Mail that the team's perception of Greene had shifted significantly. 'She was actually really lovely behind the scenes - no one expected that,' the producer revealed. They added that the episode generated significant social media engagement and admitted, 'I could see the vision if they decided to go that route.'
While stressing that it wasn't in the 'immediate plans', the producer confirmed that Greene is 'definitely someone who would be on a shortlist' and advised 'never say never' regarding her potential casting.
Mixed Reactions and Political Fallout
Not everyone is enthusiastic about the prospect. Longtime co-host Joy Behar was quick to dismiss the rumours on air, stating definitively, 'Don't worry, she's not being replaced by Marjorie Taylor Greene,' in reference to fellow host Whoopi Goldberg.
Media and PR specialist Vanessa Santos of Renegade DC believes Greene would be an excellent fit for the programme. 'The View would be lucky to have her,' Santos told the Daily Mail. 'Even if she's distancing herself from Trump right now, she still represents traditional Republican values - and she'd bring a level of courage and clarity that show desperately needs.'
Greene's departure from Congress follows a very public falling out with former ally Donald Trump, who branded her 'Marjorie Traitor Greene' and accused her of betraying the Republican Party. In a lengthy statement announcing her resignation, effective at the beginning of 2026, Greene cited a growing disgust with the Washington political establishment and her fight for the release of the Epstein files.
Following her announcement, Trump appeared to soften his stance, saying, 'It's not going to be easy for her. I'd love to see that,' in reference to her potential political comeback.
