Darren Moore, the former Sheffield Wednesday manager, has emerged as a leading candidate to succeed Dave Challinor at Stockport County, should the current boss depart for Blackburn Rovers. Challinor, 50, is the favourite to take over at Ewood Park following Michael O'Neill's exit. He has been at Stockport for just over four years, guiding them from the National League to League One, but suffered a playoff final defeat to Bolton Wanderers. Challinor described the loss as 'a sliding doors moment' as he weighs up his next move.
Moore's Managerial Pedigree
Moore, 52, has been seeking a return to management since leaving Port Vale last year. His CV boasts two promotions: one with Vale in the previous season and another with Sheffield Wednesday in 2023, when they returned to the Championship from League One. However, his tenure at West Bromwich Albion ended controversially in 2019, when he was sacked despite his team sitting fourth in the Championship and still in contention for promotion.
Other Candidates
Grimsby Town boss Dave Artell is also under consideration for the Stockport role, should Challinor move on. The club is preparing for potential changes as the managerial merry-go-round continues.
