Corbyn's New Party Rocked by Resignation and Internal Conflict

Jeremy Corbyn's fledgling political project descended into further chaos yesterday as one of its six MPs dramatically withdrew from the steering committee, citing "persistent infighting" and "veiled prejudice" against Muslim men within the organisation.

Blackburn MP's Damning Accusations

Independent MP Adnan Hussain delivered a devastating blow to Your Party just two weeks before its founding conference in Liverpool. The Blackburn representative published a statement on X expressing his deep disillusionment with the new political platform he had initially supported.

Mr Hussain revealed he had agreed to back the foundation because he believed in "building a political home with mass appeal" and creating "a force capable of challenging the rise of far-right rhetoric." However, his experience proved profoundly different from these ideals.

"I witnessed insinuations about capability, dismissive attitudes and language that carried, at the very least, veiled prejudice," Mr Hussain stated, adding he felt "deeply troubled" by how certain figures, particularly Muslim men, had been treated within the party.

Financial Disputes and Legal Threats

The crisis deepens as the party faces significant financial complications. A dispute between Mr Corbyn and fellow MP Zarah Sultana resulted in a botched membership launch that has seen hundreds of thousands of pounds in withheld donations.

On Thursday, as Ms Sultana prepared to appear on BBC's Question Time, the five other MPs issued a statement demanding the recovery of money donated by supporters. They revealed only a "small portion" of funds had been transferred to the official Your Party account, describing this as "insufficient" and calling for immediate transfer of all donations.

The situation has escalated to the point where threats of legal action are now circulating within the fledgling organisation.

What Comes Next for Your Party?

With Mr Hussain's withdrawal, only five MPs remain committed to establishing Your Party: former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, ex-Labour MP Zarah Sultana, and Independent MPs Shockat Adam, Ayoub Khan and Iqbal Mohamed.

The party is scheduled to hold its founding conference in Liverpool on November 29 and 30, where it will choose its formal name. However, the event now occurs under the cloud of internal division and public criticism.

Mr Hussain concluded his statement by expressing hope that Your Party might "ultimately become what it initially promised," while confirming he would remain part of the Independent Alliance of MPs.

The timing of this internal crisis could not be worse for the new political venture, which aims to position itself as a credible alternative to established parties while grappling with these damaging public revelations.
