Reality television personality and campaigner Georgia Harrison has shared delightful details of the day she received her MBE from the Prince of Wales, describing a warm and surprisingly humorous encounter with the future King.
From Reality TV to Royal Recognition
Georgia Harrison, best known for appearing on Love Island and The Only Way Is Essex, was formally appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in a ceremony at Windsor Castle in October this year. The 30-year-old was honoured in the King's Birthday Honours list for her services to tackling online privacy and raising awareness of cyber crime.
Her campaigning work followed her own traumatic experience, where an ex-partner shared a secretly recorded sex tape online. In 2021, she waived her anonymity ahead of the trial that saw Stephen Bear sentenced to 21 months in prison for voyeurism and disclosing private sexual films. Bear was released from HMP Brixton in 2024 after serving ten and a half months.
A Surreal and Personal Exchange
Appearing on ITV's Loose Women on Friday 5 December, Harrison revealed she did not know Prince William would be presenting the award until the day itself. She described the moment as "surreal," noting his powerful presence.
"He basically said he's seen everything I'd experienced at the time and he seen it on the news and he thought I was really, really brave and the work that I done was so important," Harrison recounted. The Prince then engaged her in a substantive conversation, asking what else needed to change to protect women and children online.
Harrison, who was pregnant with her daughter Sahara at the time of the ceremony, said she was thrilled at the prospect of telling her child one day that she was there when she met the future King.
The 'Fun Moment' He Won't Forget
The encounter took a light-hearted turn during the formalities. "When I curtsied I fell over and the Prince actually cracked up and he was really laughing," Harrison confessed. "It was a fun moment and he probably won't forget it. He'll be like 'don't bring a Love Islander in here again'."
Despite the stumble, she reflected on the honour as a "magical" and "once in a lifetime moment," ranking it as the biggest honour of her life so far, second only to the birth of her daughter.
Beyond her advocacy, Georgia Harrison has continued her reality TV career, winning Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins in 2024 alongside boxer Lani Daniels.
