A 23-year-old woman wanted in Lithuania for serious child sex offences has been arrested after being discovered hiding in a wardrobe in Northern Ireland.
Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s International Policing Unit forced entry to a rural property in Coalisland, County Tyrone, where the suspect was found concealed inside a bedroom cupboard. She was detained under a Lithuanian extradition warrant.
The woman is wanted by Lithuanian authorities to serve a prison sentence for sexual offences against a child in the Mazeikiai region. She is expected to appear before Laganside Extradition Court on Thursday.
Sergeant Davey from the PSNI’s International Policing Unit said: “Despite this fugitive’s best efforts to hide and avoid the consequences of her actions she was today apprehended. Today’s arrest delivers on our assurance of the relentless pursuit of perpetrators and supporting victims.”
Superintendent Marty Reid added that the PSNI is “committed to tracking down fugitives and supporting our European law enforcement partners” and is increasingly engaged with the UK Joint International Crime Centre, Interpol and Europol.
