A British DJ attending a festival in Germany has spoken out about being left humiliated after she was strip-searched for breaking a toilet rule. DJ Hannah Laing, 31, from Dundee, said she felt 'degraded' after being searched 'absolutely everywhere' by police officers at the Isle of Summer festival in Munich.
Incident Details
After her performance, Hannah went to the toilet with her cousin. As soon as they opened the door, they were confronted by undercover police officers who detained them. The pair were marched through the festival and taken to a private tent, where female officers conducted an intimate search.
Hannah explained that they initially assumed the search would involve only checking their pockets and bags. However, the officers informed them that they suspected drug use and proceeded with a strip-style search. Her cousin was left in tears, and both felt 'degraded and embarrassed'.
Warning to Others
The DJ has since warned Brits attending festivals in Germany to avoid entering toilets together to prevent similar experiences. Sharing her story online, she stated: 'Don't go to the toilet with your mate at German festivals. At no point were we clearly told that this would be such an intimate search. If we had been given the option we would have left the festival and not agreed to a strip search.'
She described the ordeal: 'One officer held my hands and the other did an invasive search all over including in my underwear, front and back, feeling absolutely everywhere. I felt extremely degraded and embarrassed. My cousin was crying because she felt the same.'
The officers claimed that signs on the portaloos warned that entering a booth with two or more people would result in a ban from the event. However, the signs were written in German, which Hannah and her cousin do not speak. She noted: 'Nowhere did it state that attendees could be subjected to an invasive strip style search.'
