Reality television personality and former glamour model Katie Price has been handed her seventh driving ban after ignoring official police correspondence regarding a speeding violation. The 47-year-old celebrity, who first faced disqualification in 2010, has now accumulated bans totalling over six years throughout her troubled motoring history.
Latest Offence and Court Proceedings
Price's most recent transgression occurred when a Ford Capri registered in her name was captured travelling at 80mph on a 70mph stretch of the A64 near Sutton in North Yorkshire. The incident was recorded by a speed camera at 3.03pm on October 15 last year.
North Yorkshire Police dispatched an initial letter to Price's West Sussex residence on October 20, followed by a reminder notice on November 10. Both communications requested confirmation about whether she was operating the vehicle during the speeding incident and warned of impending criminal proceedings.
Failure to Respond Leads to Conviction
Court documents reveal that no response was received from Price regarding either police letter. Consequently, she was charged with speeding and failing to provide information relating to driver identification.
Magistrate Claire Sagar, presiding at Harrogate Magistrates' Court last Tuesday, found Price guilty of neglecting to respond to a police charge. The conviction resulted in a six-month driving prohibition alongside substantial financial penalties.
Price was ordered to pay a £660 fine, £120 in court costs, and a £264 victim surcharge, bringing her total legal bill beyond £1,000. The speeding charge itself was subsequently withdrawn by police authorities.
Extensive History of Driving Offences
This latest disqualification adds to Price's extensive catalogue of motoring violations spanning more than a decade:
- December 2010: Six-month ban for admitted speeding
- 2012: One-year disqualification for failing to respond to speeding tickets
- February 2018: Another six-month prohibition for speeding
- January 2019: Three-month ban for driving while disqualified
- February 2019: Conviction for being drunk in charge of a vehicle
- Late 2019: 18-month road ban for failing to disclose driver identity after crash
- 2021: 16-week suspended prison sentence for drink-driving while disqualified and uninsured
- 2024: £880 fine for driving without licence and insurance in Northamptonshire
Judicial Criticism and Public Reaction
During her 2021 court appearance, a judge described Price's driving record as "one of the worst I have ever seen." District Judge Amanda Kelly directly told the celebrity: "You appear to think you are above the law."
John Scruby from the Campaign against Drink Driving has publicly called for more severe consequences, stating: "It's time that people realise that she is not going to listen and will keep doing this again and again. She will carry on breaking the law and the only way to stop her is to put her behind bars."
Secretive Court Process and Financial Troubles
Price's latest conviction was processed through the Single Justice Procedure, a confidential court system where magistrates handle criminal cases behind closed doors. Due to this secretive nature, it remains unclear whether Price had opportunity to contest the ban or whether the court was fully aware of her previous driving record.
Beyond her motoring difficulties, Price has faced significant financial challenges. She has undergone bankruptcy proceedings in both 2019 and 2024, with a judge recently instructing her to reduce her "extravagant pattern of expenditure." The celebrity remains subject to a court order aimed at settling her debts until February 2027.
Personal and Professional Consequences
Price has acknowledged that her driving convictions have made obtaining car insurance exceptionally difficult. On a recent podcast appearance, she admitted struggling to secure coverage due to her extensive violation history.
Earlier this year, Price surprised fans by marrying businessman Lee Andrews, 42, in Dubai following what she described as a whirlwind "one-week" romance. The reality star continues to maintain public visibility through various media appearances and business ventures despite her ongoing legal and financial challenges.
