Liberal senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price charged taxpayers $2,537 to fly her husband to the CPAC conservative conference in Brisbane last year, where she gave a speech criticising government spending. The claim, made under the family travel entitlement, covered flights between Alice Springs and Brisbane from 19 to 21 September 2025.
In her CPAC address, Price said: 'You can't subsidise your way to success, or spend your way to salvation.' She called for reduced government spending to avoid burdening future generations with debt. The senator was a backbencher at the time, having been removed from the shadow ministry days earlier over comments about Indian migrants.
The Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority data also shows Labor ministers Don Farrell and Anika Wells used the same entitlement to fly spouses to the AFL grand final, for which they received free tickets. Farrell's claims coincided with trips to a wine event and Brisbane's Riverfire celebration.
The family travel allowance has since been amended to limit claims for spouses attending major events. A spokesperson for Farrell said all travel was undertaken consistent with the rules.
