Helen Mirren Hate Crime Probe: Met Police Review Video

The Metropolitan Police are investigating a video circulating on social media that appears to show Dame Helen Mirren being subjected to an antisemitic slur. The footage, recorded in Tower Hill, London, captures an individual calling the Oscar-winning actress an "evil Zionist b****" as she walks with her husband, director Taylor Hackford.

Police Statement

A Met Police spokesperson confirmed that officers are "reviewing footage" of the incident, which is believed to have occurred "at the end of last year." The statement added: "Officers are currently reviewing the footage and investigating the matter as a possible hate crime. They are attempting to contact Dame Helen to ascertain if she wishes to formally report the incident."

Background on Mirren's Views

Dame Helen, who is not Jewish, has been a longstanding advocate for Israel. She has previously stated: "I believe in Israel, in the existence of Israel... I believe in Israel because of the Holocaust." The actress has faced criticism for her pro-Israel stance, but this is the first known incident of direct verbal abuse in public.
