Expert Warns Russia-Ukraine War Has 'No End in Sight' as Stalemate Continues
Expert Warns Russia-Ukraine War Has No End in Sight

Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine has prompted a chilling warning from an expert who says there is 'no end in sight' for the conflict. Professor Anthony Glees of the University of Buckingham believes the war, which began on February 24, 2022, has now lasted longer than World War I and shows no signs of a peaceful resolution.

Conflict Could Spill Over

Speaking to the Express, Professor Glees warned that the conflict could continue to escalate and that peace may only be achieved by dismantling President Vladimir Putin's regime. He stated that the war will not end soon and that Ukraine's best chance for a swift conclusion is to target a specific branch of the Russian military.

Putin's Need to Destroy Ukraine

Professor Glees explained, 'I do not believe this war will be over any time soon, in the sense of there being a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. The only way to a permanent peace is to smash Putin. Let's hope next time Ukraine attacks the core of Putin's secret police state it's not in St Petersburg. Let's hope they obliterate the Kremlin and all those working within it.'

He added that Putin knows he must 'destroy' Ukraine to win, but the opposite is happening. 'The Russian war machine has not just ground to an ignominious halt, mired in gore, but since the beginning of 2026 Ukraine has captured more territory from Russia than Russia has taken from Ukraine.'

Stalemate and Deep Strikes

According to Professor Glees, the current situation is a stalemate, marked by bloodshed on the frontlines and deep strikes into each other's territory. 'Ukraine is scoring major successes with its longer-range drones as we saw in St Petersburg last week and, more hidden, with its relentless attacks on the primary source of Russia's ability to wage war, its oil refineries.'

Peace May Be Years Away

Professor Glees outlined a potential path to peace, noting that a 20-mile wide zone is emerging between the two forces. 'This zone may well develop into a mindset which allows for an armistice with an end to fighting and the bloodshed. However, this is many months, even years away.'
