Canada Imposes 21-Day Self-Isolation for Ebola-Affected Travelers

Canada has introduced stringent new border measures requiring travelers from Ebola-affected regions to self-isolate for 21 days. The Public Health Agency of Canada confirmed the move, citing an 'abundance of caution' amid the ongoing outbreak in northeastern Congo.

Starting Saturday, symptomatic travelers will be hospitalized, while those without a suitable place to isolate will be provided accommodation. The measures are set to remain in effect until August 29.

In a parallel move, immigration authorities have paused final decisions on applications from Congo, South Sudan, and Uganda for 90 days, a period that may be adjusted based on the outbreak's progression.

The World Health Organization reports that the current Ebola outbreak, concentrated in northeastern Congo, is a rare strain outpacing response efforts. Over 900 suspected cases and more than 220 deaths have been recorded, with warnings that the outbreak could persist for months despite increased aid.
