The White House has started a livestream of an AI Lego Donald Trump next to a list of his 'achievements' as polls open today. The stream, titled 'Lo-Fi Achievement Beats to Make America Great Again', is running on X while millions of Americans head to the polls for the vital midterm elections.
The move appears to be a last-minute bid to win over votes for the Republican Party, which is trying to keep control of Congress. In the video, the AI version of the President waves and turns to supporters while lo-fi techno beats play in the background, as a list of Trump's 'achievements' during his second term floats past.
Achievements list includes basic presidential duties
Some of the achievements highlighted in the livestream include basic presidential responsibilities, such as giving speeches and hosting champion sports teams at the White House. One entry read: 'President Trump hosted a successful bilateral meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House regarding Gaza, Iran and tariffs.'
Another appeared to praise a routine cabinet meeting: 'Held a highly successful cabinet meeting, with each Secretary providing an update on the groundbreaking work they are doing at their respective agencies.'
Control of Congress at stake
From New York to Alaska, Republicans and Democrats are vying for control over the House of Representatives and the Senate. If the Democrats win, it will be a major blow to Trump's administration and his ability to carry out major reform during his last two years in office. Races in swing states are neck-and-neck.
Every two years, elections take place in the US for Congress and the Senate. When these elections occur halfway through a President's term, they are referred to as midterms. Many other states also hold state-level elections, voting in governors and other representatives. In the House, Representatives serve terms of two years, while those in the Senate serve six-year terms.
What a Democrat win would mean
The House and Senate are both controlled by the Republican Party right now, but if Democrats win the majority of seats, they would gain control. Democrat control in the House and Senate would make it very difficult for Trump to continue pushing his political agenda. Most Americans see this midterm election as a key opportunity to vote either in favour of or against Trump and his policies, even though the President himself is not on the ballot.
Voting begins Tuesday, and results are expected later that night or early the next morning.
