President Donald Trump has drawn a comparison between himself and Elvis Presley, asserting that he commands larger audiences than the King of Rock and Roll did in his prime. The 79-year-old Republican revealed his plan to cancel the planned concert for America's 250th birthday and instead host a rally featuring himself as the main attraction.
Trump's Self-Comparison to Elvis
In a post on Truth Social, Trump referred to himself as 'the goat'—meaning the greatest of all time—and stated that he would take over as the headliner of the event. Unlike Elvis, who needed a guitar to captivate fans, Trump claimed that all he requires is a microphone and a compelling speech to draw 'much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime.'
'I am ordering my Representatives to look at the feasibility of doing an AMERICA IS BACK Rally,' Trump wrote. 'Same time, same location. Only Great Patriots invited – It will be a Wild and Beautiful Celebration of America!'
Artists Drop Out Amid Controversy
Trump's outburst comes after several artists withdrew from the Freedom 250 concert, citing concerns over the event's political ties and safety threats. Poison frontman Bret Michaels was among those who pulled out, stating that he had initially agreed to participate in what he believed was a nonpartisan commemoration of America's 250th anniversary. However, he later learned that the event was linked to the Trump Administration.
'The event has evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of,' Michaels said in a statement. He added that concerns for the safety of his family, friends, and bandmates, including threats, led to his decision to withdraw.
Michaels joins Morris Day, Young MC, the Commodores, and Martina McBride in dropping out, leaving only a fraction of the original nine headline acts. The concert was scheduled to take place on the National Mall just a month from now.
Trump's Vision for the Rally
Trump criticized the artists who withdrew, calling them 'highly paid, Third Rate “Artists”' and said he would replace them with a major speech to rally the country. 'Two years ago, the United States was DEAD. Now we have the “HOTTEST” Country anywhere in the World,' he wrote. 'I don’t want so-called “Artists” that get paid far too much money, who aren’t happy. I only want to be surrounded by Happy People, Smart People, Successful People, and People that know how to WIN.'
Despite the comparisons to Elvis, Trump will not be performing music or donning a sparkly jumpsuit; instead, he plans to deliver a speech at the event.
