California Gubernatorial Candidate Katie Porter Incites Fury with Explicit Anti-Trump Display
Democratic candidate Katie Porter has ignited a firestorm of controversy after brandishing a sign bearing the expletive slogan 'F*** Trump' at a political rally, enraging supporters of the former president. The incident occurred during her address at the California Democratic Party State Convention in San Francisco on Saturday, where Porter is vying to replace outgoing Governor Gavin Newsom, whose term limit concludes this year.
Provocative Rally Moment Goes Viral
Porter, known for her outspoken dissent against Donald Trump, addressed the convention crowd while holding a whiteboard emblazoned with the profane message. In a highly charged moment, she encouraged her supporters to chant the words aloud, shouting 'F*** Trump' as the audience echoed her call. 'Together, we're going to kick Trump's a** in November,' Porter declared, adding, 'I'll stand up to Trump and his cronies just like I did in Congress.'
The clip quickly went viral on social media, drawing swift and severe criticism from many observers. Critics argued that Porter's focus on anti-Trump sentiment overlooks pressing state issues, with one commenter noting, 'When California has the worst homeless situation, highest poverty rate and highest unemployment rate, barely anyone can afford to buy a home or rent one... Highest gas prices. Disgusting!' Another added, 'They can't run on their successful policies, so they have to do this.'
A History of Controversy Surrounds Porter's Campaign
This latest episode adds to a series of controversies that have plagued Porter's gubernatorial bid. In October, a resurfaced video showed her yelling at a staffer to 'get out of my f***ing shot' during an interview about electric vehicles. She has also faced backlash for snapping at a journalist who inquired about winning over Trump voters, retorting, 'How would I need them in order to win, ma'am?'
Further allegations from 2013 divorce documents, reported by KOMO News, accuse Porter of dumping scalding mashed potatoes on her ex-husband's head and verbally abusing him. Additionally, she has been criticized as a 'difficult' boss who verbally abused employees during her tenure in the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2025. One social media user paraphrased former Democrat Rep. Harley Rouda, stating, 'Katie Porter is an abuse fraud, a bully with a whiteboard, and you should vote for anyone else except Katie Porter.'
Policy Proposals Amid the Backlash
Despite the uproar, Porter used the remainder of her convention speech to outline key policy initiatives. She proposed making the University of California and California State systems tuition-free, advocated for single-payer healthcare, and suggested eliminating state income tax for individuals earning under $100,000. 'I'm running for governor because I'm willing and ready to get s*** done,' she asserted, emphasizing her platform focused on affordability, healthcare access, and clean energy laws.
Porter, who failed to advance to the general election in her 2024 Senate bid after the primary, is one of seven Democrats on the ballot for the June gubernatorial primary. Her supporters are familiar with her signature whiteboard, which she frequently used in congressional hearings to silently critique witnesses. The Daily Mail has reached out to Porter's campaign office for comment on the recent rally incident, but no response has been provided at this time.
