The investigation into Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor could be sped up if Democrats win the US midterm elections, potentially leading to the release of more Epstein files and the removal of redactions, a former federal prosecutor told Newsweek.
Neama Rahmani, president of West Coast Trial Lawyers, said that if the Democrats win back the House of Representatives in November it "could potentially have a huge impact" on the investigation into Andrew. Democrat pressure helped force the release of the Epstein Files in the first place.
Democrat push for more documents
Rahmani said a Democrat-dominated Congress could push for more of the unreleased pages to be published and could also mean redactions are removed. The Democrats on the House Oversight Committee started to release emails from Epstein's estate in autumn 2025, reports Newsweek.
"I know Ro Khanna has been pushing this very aggressively," Rahmani said. "It's certainly very possible."
Background of the investigation
Andrew's links to Epstein have been under pressure since 2011. Virginia Giuffre accused the royal of sexual assault and in 2021 she sued through a civil court in New York. Andrew settled for an undisclosed sum while denying liability. He has always denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein.
Earlier this year, in February, on his 66th birthday, he was arrested by Thames Valley Police on suspicion of misconduct in public office over separate allegations. Andrew was accused of leaking confidential government documents to Epstein while acting as British trade envoy.
US Justice Department releases
The US Department of Justice has released over three million pages of evidence following the FBI investigation into Epstein. Many of the documents which were made public were redacted and many were withheld.
British police are attempting to obtain evidence from Trump's Department of Justice. Donald Trump has dismissed the scandal related to Jeffrey Epstein's abuse of girls as a Democrat conspiracy to ruin his reputation. The president blamed the "lunatic left" in a Truth Social post in July 2025: "Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax."
