Alex Jones: The One Show Off Air for BBC Election Coverage

Alex Jones, the presenter of The One Show, has confirmed that the programme will be taken off air as part of a BBC schedule shake-up. The television star shared the update during Thursday's episode, informing viewers that the show would not broadcast on Friday, May 8.

The magazine-style programme typically airs from Monday to Friday at 7pm on BBC One. However, Jones revealed that this week's final episode will be pre-empted due to coverage of local elections. Co-hosting alongside Roman Kemp, she told the audience: "We are off tomorrow because of the election coverage. But we will be back on Monday with Sir Ian McKellen and star of Killing Eve and Grey's Anatomy, Sandra Oh."

As the show concluded, Jones also extended birthday wishes to Sir David Attenborough, who turns 100 on May 8. "Bye-bye, see you next week," she said, waving with Kemp as the cameras rolled.

Thursday's Highlights

Thursday's instalment featured special guests including Springwatch host Chris Packham, director Jon Favreau, and actors Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver, who star in the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu film. The segment included a surprise appearance by the puppet Grogu, which left Jones visibly captivated. "I've never seen you this starstruck before," Kemp remarked. "Honestly, I just want him to come for a playdate," Jones confessed, asking director Favreau about working with the puppet.

Favreau explained that Grogu is operated by multiple puppeteers working together "like a jazz quartet," adding that director Bryce Dallas Howard would often speak directly to the puppet during filming, starting a tradition. Pascal described Grogu as "an amazing scene partner" with great improvisational skills.

Viewers were equally charmed, with one posting on X: "Grog on The One Show, how freaking cute." Another commented: "The Grogu puppet is amazing, I want one, suspect he cost lots and lots of money." A third added: "Mesmerised by the Grogu puppet I can't lie."

The One Show airs weeknights at 7pm on BBC One and will return on Monday, May 11.
