The UK government has announced 100 new sanctions targeting Russia's revenues and military supplies, including measures against its 'shadow fleet' of oil-carrying ships and electronics companies. The move, announced by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper during a visit to Kyiv, comes as Russia continues its largest air attacks of the war, firing over 800 missiles and drones in a single night.
The sanctions target 70 vessels in Russia's shadow fleet that transport oil, as well as 30 entities and individuals that supply key equipment such as electronics, chemicals, and explosives used to manufacture missiles and other weapons systems. Among those sanctioned are China-based Shenzhen Blue Hat International Trade Co and its Russian co-owners, and Turkey-based MastelMakina İthalat İhracat Limited Şirketi and its Azerbaijani CEO.
Cooper stated: 'The UK will not stand idly by as Putin continues his barbaric invasion of Ukraine. International action to increase economic pressure on Russia and to cut off critical cashflows which he desperately needs to pay for this illegal war is vital.' The sanctions are part of the UK's efforts to ramp up economic pressure alongside security support and work towards a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
