US President Donald Trump has indicated that the final stages of a deal with Iran are currently under discussion, suggesting that an agreement is on the verge of being announced. In a statement on Truth Social, Trump revealed that the deal has been largely negotiated, pending finalization between the United States, Iran, and other involved nations.
Progress in Talks
Trump's remarks came shortly after Iran, the United States, and mediator Pakistan all confirmed that significant progress had been made during Saturday's talks aimed at ending the ongoing conflict. The president noted that he had a productive call with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, further emphasizing the positive trajectory of the negotiations.
"An agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalization between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other countries," Trump wrote. "Separately, I had a call with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel, which, likewise, went very well. Final aspects and details of the deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly. In addition to many other elements of the agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened."
Iran and Pakistan Confirm Progress
Iranian officials earlier confirmed that Tehran is focused on finalizing a memorandum of understanding, while the Pakistani army reported that negotiations over the past 24 hours had yielded "encouraging" progress toward a final understanding. The positive signals from all parties suggest that a comprehensive agreement may be reached imminently.
Trump Cancels Personal Plans
In a show of commitment to the negotiations, Trump decided to skip his son Don Jr.'s wedding this weekend, remaining at the White House "during this important period of time." The president had also planned to spend the Memorial Day weekend at his golf property in New Jersey but chose to stay in Washington instead. This decision underscores the administration's prioritization of the Iran deal.
The potential agreement marks a significant development in US-Iran relations, with the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz being a key component. Further details are expected to be released in the coming days as the final aspects of the deal are ironed out.
