Nobel Institute Rejects Machado's Offer to Share Peace Prize with Trump

The Norwegian Nobel Institute has clarified that the Nobel Peace Prize cannot be revoked, shared, or transferred, following comments by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado that she wanted to give her award to US President Donald Trump.

Machado, who was named the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate in October, had told Fox News that she wanted to “give it to him and share it with him” on behalf of the Venezuelan people, citing his “decisive support of our cause” and the recent US airstrikes and raid that led to the seizure of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

Trump, who has expressed a strong desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize, said that accepting it from Machado “would be a great honour”. However, the Norwegian Nobel Committee and Institute have stated that the award cannot be transferred, citing Alfred Nobel’s will and the statutes of the Nobel Foundation, which make no provision for withdrawal or transfer.

Machado, who escaped Venezuela in December to attend the Nobel ceremony in Oslo, has also voiced support for Trump’s military intervention in Venezuela. Despite this, Trump has not backed her to lead the country, instead supporting Delcy Rodríguez, Maduro’s deputy.
