Tony Hawk Denies Epstein Island Wedding Amid File Speculation
Tony Hawk Denies Epstein Island Wedding in File Speculation

Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk has firmly denied ever getting married on Jeffrey Epstein's private island, responding directly to speculation arising from mentions in the files related to the deceased sex offender. Hawk, who is widely celebrated as one of the greatest skaters in history, tied the knot with lingerie store owner Lhotse Merriam in 2006, marking his third marriage out of four.

Wedding Location Clarified

Official photographs from Hawk's 2006 wedding are documented on Getty Images as having been taken at the Tavarua Island resort in Fiji. Tavarua is a renowned surfing destination, and Hawk had previously participated in the Kelly Slater Invitational there in 2004. A comparative analysis using Google's image search confirms that wide shots from the wedding day align with typical images of Tavarua Island, reinforcing the location's authenticity.

Speculation and Misinformation

However, rumours began to circulate rapidly after it was noted that the photographer credited for the wedding images is named Mark Epstein, a name that coincidentally matches that of Jeffrey Epstein's brother. This connection fuelled unfounded theories, despite no evidence linking the photographer to the sex offender.

Further adding to the confusion, file EFTA00038674 from the Epstein documents includes a statement from an alleged victim who claimed she was on Little Saint James island, Epstein's private property, during Prince Andrew's visit and 'when Tony Hawk got married on the island'. This mention is the only reference to Hawk in the files, aside from two citations of one of his console games, and it represents the sole public allegation of his presence on the island.

Hawk's Public Denial

In response to the growing speculation, Hawk took to Instagram to unequivocally shoot down any claims that he was on Epstein's island or had ever met the man. Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges in New York.

Hawk explained, 'One of the guests in 2006 shot photos of the Fiji ceremony and licensed them to Getty Images. His name is [coincidentally] Mark Epstein, an accomplished sports action photographer from Wyoming and of no relation to Jeffrey Epstein (who I never met and whose island I never visited).' He emphasised, 'This is all easily verifiable information. Facts are not fungible.'

Additionally, Hawk apologised to the photographer for being 'pulled into the misinformation vortex', highlighting the unintended consequences of the false association.

Marriage History Provided

To further dispel doubts, Hawk provided detailed accounts of his other marriages, all of which align with publicly reported information. His first marriage was to Cindy Dunbar in 1990, held at their home in Fallbrook, California. He then married Erin Lee in 1996 at the Hilton Hotel in San Diego, California. Following his union with Merriam in Fiji, he married his current wife, Catherine Goodman, in 2015 at Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland.

Context of the Epstein Files

The Epstein Files consist of millions of documents, images, and videos related to Epstein's criminal activities. It is crucial to note that being mentioned in these files does not inherently imply criminal involvement. Epstein was first convicted in 2008 for soliciting prostitution from a minor, leading to his registration as a sex offender.

Tony Hawk, who retired from professional competition in 2003, continues to be a prominent figure in sports and culture, and his denial aims to set the record straight amidst the swirling misinformation.
