OnlyFans creators have criticised HBO's Euphoria for what they describe as an inaccurate and harmful depiction of sex work in the show's third season. The series features Sydney Sweeney's character Cassie turning to the platform to fund her wedding, with scenes showing her dressed in costumes including a baby and a dog.
Maitland Ward, a former Boy Meets World star turned OnlyFans creator, told Variety: 'In the climate we’re in, that they dressed her up as a baby to make pornographic OnlyFans content was beyond troubling and again serves to perpetuate stereotypes that sex workers have no moral compass and that they will do anything for money.' She added that the show perpetuates 'untrue stigma that somehow sex work is synonymous with sex trafficking and abuse'.
Another creator, Sydney Leathers, highlighted factual inaccuracies, noting that the age-play depicted is not permitted on OnlyFans due to strict credit card processor rules. 'There’s just a lot that’s ridiculous and cartoonish about it,' she said.
The third season has divided critics, though The Independent's Nick Hilton awarded it four stars, praising Sweeney's performance and calling the show 'a generation-defining show' that 'owns its contradictions'.
Ward recently revealed that she now earns significantly more from OnlyFans than her acting career, stating she can make 'six figures a month' compared to $20,000-$25,000 per episode on Boy Meets World.
